HAGERSTOWN, MD - For the fifth straight game the Lakewood BlueClaws offense would rack up ten or more hits. This time the bats would be backed up by strong pitching.
Jonathan Pettibone struck out five in 4.1 innings pitched, giving up seven hits and three earned runs. Joshua Zeid (1-0) then limited Hagerstown to just one hit in 2.2 innings, and Eric Massingham would close the door for a six-out save as the BlueClaws (3-2) beat the Suns (1-4) 7-4.
The offense was led by Anthony Hewitt, who went 3-for- 4 with a monster two-run home run and two doubles. He is now batting .500 this season in four games. Jiwan James went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, and Sebastian Valle broke a 1-15 mini-slump going 2- for-4 with an RBI.
Paul Demny (0-1) took the loss for the Suns, giving up three earned runs on three hits in just three innings.
Tuesday night Nick Hernandez (1-0 3.00) will get the nod for Lakewood, facing Daniel Rosenbaum (1-0 0.00). First pitch is at 6:35 pm.
ClawsNotes: Individual tickets for the September 2nd game when the BlueClaws will retire Ryan Howard's number 29 will go on sale Saturday.
