
BlueClaws survive pinch-hit home run

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Intimidators allowed two runs in the top of the ninth inning and couldn't counter in the home half, falling 9-7, Saturday night at CMC-NorthEast Stadium in front of 4,105 fans. In the eighth inning down by three runs Michael Suiter crushed a pinch-hit three-run home run (2) to tie the game, 7-7.
David Trexler was charged with the loss (0-1) after allowing a two-run double in the ninth with two outs. Trexler worked 2.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out three.
Kannapolis (15-19) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the home half of the first inning off Lakewood starter Chris Oliver, who allowed two hits and a walk to the first three batters he faced.
Trailing 2-0, Lakewood cut the deficit in the top of the second. Herlis Rodriguez singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Rodriguez scored on a single the next at-bat by Damek Thomscha.
In the top of the fourth inning, it was Rodriquez and Thomscha again producing the Lakewood offense. With two outs, Rodriguez doubled and scored on a Thomscha double.
In the fifth inning, Lakewood scored three more runs to take their first lead of the game, 5-2. The BlueClaws used four consecutive hits to score three runs off Spencer Adams in his final inning of work.
Kannapolis got two runs back in the home half of fifth. With bases loaded Eddy Alvarez reached first and scored Toby Thomas on a fielder's choice. The next at-bat James Baldwin scored on a Christian Stringer sacrifice fly.
Lakewood added one run in the sixth and seventh inning to extend their lead, 7-4.
Adams went 5.0 innings allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits, while striking out two. Connor Walsh came in for Adams, going 2.0 innings, allowing one run on one hit while walking three and striking out six.
Alexis Rivero earned the win (2-0) for Lakewood, working 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs, one hit, one walk and one strikeout. Oliver went 5.0 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits while walking four and striking out two. Joey DeNato worked 1.0 inning, allowing no runs, no hits, and two strikeouts. Scott Harris went 1 and 2/3 innings of relief, allowing three runs on two hits while walking two and striking out two.
The Intimidators and BlueClaws conclude their 4-game series Sunday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium beginning 2:05 p.m. Jordan Guerrero (4-0, 1.58) will go for Kannapolis against Elniery Garcia (2-3, 3.62). The First 1,000 fans will receive an Intimidators 2015 team photo. Sunday is also Kid's Day presented by Cornerstone Church. Pre-game autographs and post-game kid's run the bases.
