Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC--The first two games of Asheville and Rome's series were pretty silent for current Braves outfielder and former TC Roberson standout Braxton Davidson. However on Saturday night, the first-round draft pick notched three hits and scored a run in Rome's 6-3 win over Asheville.
Davidson singled in the second, singled to lead off the fifth, and singled in the eighth. His run scored broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the fifth. The Braves added another in the inning but the Tourists responded in the bottom half.
With runners at the corners and no outs, Robbie Perkins dropped down a bunt that scored Josh Fuentes. Later in the inning, Marcos Derkes singled home Sean Dwyer. With the game tied 2-2 heading to the sixth, the visitors stuck in a big way. Back-to-back two out RBI hits coupled with a Tourists throwing error made it 5-2.
The two teams traded runs in their next turn at the plate. For Asheville, Dwyer delivered with a single into right that scored Forrest Wall. Helmis Rodriguez did not factor in the decision but pitched well. The Tourists left-hander went five innings and surrendered just two runs.
Dwyer led the way with two hits and a walk. Asheville managed just six hits in the game and their team batting average dropped to .218 for the season. With the loss the Tourists now lost five straight; matching a season high. The Braves will look to sweep the series with a Sunday afternoon contest set for 2:05pm.
