Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
Savannah, GA - The Sand Gnats scored four times in the bottom of the eighth inning to produce a 5-2 comeback win over the Lexington Legends Saturday night at Historic Grayson Stadium on Pink in the Park night. The win snapped the Gnats' three-game losing streak and gave starter Josh Prevost his first win of the year.
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth, the first five Gnats (13-21) all collected hits. Shortstop Luis Guillorme bought home the tying run with a bouncing single up the middle. Immediately afterwards, left fielder John Mora roped a single into right field to score Patrick Biondi with the third Savannah run of the night. Guillorme scored on a wild pitch and Mora trotted home on a sacrifice fly to complete the inning's scoring.
Prevost (1-4, 4.74) allowed single runs in the second and third innings, but limited the damage and worked through eight innings to pick up his first win of 2015. He struck out five and walked one. Jimmy Duff retired the side in order in the ninth with one strikeout for his first save.
The Legends (15-20) scored the game's first run in the top of the second inning when Humberto Arteaga singled home Wander Franco.
In the third inning Brandon Downes doubled off the top of the left field wall and came home on LF Alfredo Escalera's sacrifice fly. Downes added a fifth inning single to extend his streak to seven straight at-bats with a hit over which time he was 7-for-7 with four doubles and a triple. His streak ended when Prevost retired him in the seventh on a sharp one-hopper to first base.
Prevost tossed a career-high eight innings and allowing just two runs. The Belle Mead, NJ native has strung two consecutive solid outings together, Prevost allowed just one run and received a no-decision in his last start
