
BlueClaws Rally for Win Over Shorebirds

Lakewood, NJ - The BlueClaws (30-36) began a four game home stand on Friday night to wrap up the 2005 season against the first place Delmarva Shorebirds (40-26), Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The BlueClaws rallied from five runs down to win 7-6 capped off by Mike Dzurilla' two-run walk off single in the ninth.
Trailing 6-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth John Hardy led off the inning with a base hit then moved up to third on Sean Gamble's one-out single. With runners at the corners Dzurilla lined a ball into the right field corner plating both runners to complete the BlueClaws come from behind win.
Cory Duiett (2-6) recorded the win pitching a perfect ninth for the BlueClaws.
Lakewood entered the eighth inning trailing 6-2 but plated three runs to cut the lead to one. Gamble led off the inning with a base hit then came home when Dzurilla followed up with a two-run homer. It was Dzurilla's 12th homer of the year and came on a 3-1 count.
Then with one out in the inning Ryan Frith and Sam Orr connected for back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners. Josh Mader followed up with a ground out to the shortstop allowing Frith to come home to score to make it 6-5.
Delmarva took a 6-2 lead in the top half of the eighth inning on a one-out RBI single from Pat Scalabrini scoring Arturo Rivas. With one out in the inning Rivas doubled down the left field line.
Lakewood plated their second run of the game in the seventh inning when Mader scored on Rafael Diaz fielding error. Mader led off the inning with a base hit then stole second and moved up to third on catcher Juan Gutierrez's throwing error. Greg Golson followed up with a hard hit ball to the third baseman Diaz who bobbled it and threw late to first allowing Mader to score.
The BlueClaws got on the board in the third inning on a throwing error from Gary Cates. Chris Klemm led off the inning with a double to get into scoring position. John Hardy follwed up with a grounder to Cates who threw over the first baseman's head and into the BlueClaws dugout. The two base error allowed Klemm to come in to score and Hardy to go down to second and Lakewood trailed by 5-1.
The Shorebirds took a 5-0 lead in the third inning when Jason Fransz led off the inning with a solo home run off starter C.J. Woodrow.
Woodrow got the no decision allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits over six innings. Woodrow did not walk a batter and struck out five while hitting a batter.
Delmarva plated two runs in the first inning and two more in the second to take a 4-0 lead.
The BlueClaws continue their series with the Shorebirds on Saturday night with just three games left in the season. First pitch on Saturday night is at 7:05 p.m. with on-air time at 6:50 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.
