
Captains drop sixth straight

(Eastlake, Ohio)--- Catcher Angel Salome had a bases clearing double in the top of the sixth inning, and Charlie Fermaint smashed a solo homerun in the eighth to seal a 5-3 win for the West Virginia Power over the Lake County Captains Friday night at Classic Park.
With the score 3-1 in the top of the sixth West Virginia (33-32,58-77) loaded the bases on two singles by William Lewis and Hasan Rasheed, and a hit-by-pitch. Salome then followed with a double in the right field gap that scored all three runs to give the Power a 4-3 lead. Two innings later Fermaint belted his solo shot to left to make it 5-3.
The Captains (31-34, 71-64) got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning scoring three unearned runs to take a 3-0 lead. Chris Gimenez scored on a throwing error, Marshall Szabo scored on a passed ball, and Ricardo Rojas scored on Wyatt Toregas' RBI single.
Power starter Yovani Gallardo (8-3) hurled six and one-third innings allowing three runs on six hits, walking two and striking out five to earn his eighth victory of the season. Chuck Lofgren (5-5) was saddled with the loss. Robert Hinton tossed two and two thirds scoreless innings in picking up his 14th save of the season.
The Captains and the Power will play game two of the series Saturday night starting at 7:05 (WELW AM 1330).
