Suns to help hurricane disaster relief

Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Hagerstown Suns are joining in the relief effort for residents and businesses affected by Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast.

During tonight's game, the Suns will be accepting donations during the 7th and 8th innings as staff members will be going up and down Municipal Stadium's aisles with buckets. In addition, the Hagerstown Suns Fan Club will be donating all proceeds from a team-autographed baseball bat raffle collected at tonight's game.

Because this collection is being authorized by President Bush and supported by Minor League Baseball, the regular prohibition against collections from patrons of Minor League Games does not apply.

The donations will be compiled and forwarded to the American Red Cross. The playoff-bound Suns play tonight at 7:05pm at Municipal Stadium as they take on the Lexington Legends. Fireworks, presented by U.S. Cellular and The Herald-Mail, will take place immediately following tonight's game.

The Suns would like to thank and recognize Twigg Cycles as the local business matched all Suns "Launch-a-Ball" promotion sales from the Suns game last night, resulting in a $450 donation to the Hurricane Katrina disaster relief effort as well.

The Hagerstown Suns are the single A affiliate of the New York Mets and are owned by Los Angeles based Mandalay Baseball Properties. For more information, contact the Suns at 301.791.6266, via email at info@hagerstownsuns.com or at www.hagerstownsuns.com.
