Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Kannapolis, NC - Asheville scored five of its six runs with two outs on the way to a 6-2 comeback win against the Intimidators Friday night in front of more than 3,323 at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Trailing 2-0 into the sixth, Rob Hosgood hit a solo home run to right off of I's starter Jack Egbert. The righty then hit Florentino Nunez who moved to second on a fielder's choice and scored on a Justin Nelson single. Neil Wilson took Intimidators reliever Garry Bakker deep with two out in the seventh. Bakker yielded three more in the eighth when he walked Justin Nelson intentionally to get to Matt Miller. The league MVP hit a towering drive to center pushing Asheville in front 6-2.
Bakker (5-4) took the loss with a pair of innings allowng four runs on four hits. Franklin Morales (8-4) was the winner with seven innings of two run ball. Kannapolis made a late charge putting a pair of runners on in the ninth, but Darric Merrell came on and forced Adam Ricks into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game. Merrell earned his fifth save.
Earlier in the evening Savannah beat Augusta 5-3 in the first game of a double header. At the conclusion of the Intimidators' game, Savannah was leading 2-0 in the fourth of game two. If the Sand Gnats win, Kannapolis clinches the Southern Division. If not, the I's have a three game series against Greensboro starting Saturday night at First Horizon Park. Any win or Augusta loss will clinch the division for Kannapolis.
