Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

GREENSBORO, NC - The BlueClaws couldn't protect another late lead Wednesday afternoon, dropping game one of a doubleheader 3-2 in a shortened seven inning affair.

The BlueClaws (21-18) took the lead in the sixth inning. Jeremy Barnes and Jonathan Singleton drove in a run each on two base hits and the Claws took a 2-0 lead.

Lakewood scored twice and picked up four hits in the inning after tallying just two through the first five against Hoppers (18-21) starter Jose Alvarez.

Matt Way (2-4) had been brilliant for the BlueClaws through five, but gave up the lead in the sixth. Justin Bass hit his eighth homer run of the season with one out to cut the lead in half, then Kyle Skipworth hit a two-run shot to give the Grasshoppers a 3-2 lead.

Way allowed just those three runs in 5.1 innings, but had his two start winning streak snapped.

Sandy Rosario (3-1) allowed the two Lakewood runs but took the win. Alejandro Ramos pitched a scoreless seventh for his ninth save.

Wednesday at 2:25 pm Lakewood will play game two of the doubleheader. Colby Shreve (2-0, 1.50) takes on Edgar Olmos (2-1, 4.06) in the last of an eight- game road trip.

ClawsNotes: Jonathan Villar led off the game with a base hit to extend his hit streak to 12 games.

The BlueClaws will return home on Thursday to open an eight-game homestand. West Virginia (Pirates) comes to Lakewood for the first time, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm.
