Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - Hector Sanchez's two-out, two-run double in the fourth inning pulled the Augusta GreenJackets out of their only deficit in their entire four-game series with the Savannah Sand Gnats and provided the difference in a 3-1 win and series sweep over the Gnats.

With two on and two outs, Sanchez drilled a double to left-center to score a pair and give the GreenJackets a 2-1 lead in the fourth. They added to it in the seventh when Sharlon Schoop followed Evan Crawford's two-out triple with a base hit to provide an insurance run.

Savannah broke a string of 37 consecutive scoreless innings in this series with a run in the second inning. Alex Gregory's seeing-eye single off Kyle Vazquez gave the Sand Gnats their only lead in the series at 1-0. Vazquez (4-1) settled down after the early adversity to deliver seven strong innings of one-run, five-hit baseball. He walked two, struck out six and retired the final 12 hitters he faced.

Sand Gnats starter Jimmy Fuller didn't have his best stuff, tossing six innings and allowing two runs on four hits. Fuller (5-2) walked three and struck out eight in his second loss of the year against the GreenJackets.

Devan Kline retired six of the seven batters he faced in relief of Vazquez - striking out three - to earn his first save of the season.

The win and four-game series sweep gives the GreenJackets sole possession of first place in the Southern Division and extends the current season-long winning streak to six games. Augusta is now 10-2 at Lake Olmstead Stadium in the month of May and the Jackets have won nine of their last 11 games overall.

The GreenJackets hit the road for the final time in May, sending Chris Heston (2-3, 4.50) to the mound against the Greenville Drive to take on Yeiper Castillo (1-3, 3.40). First pitch in Greenville will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
