Braves Sweep Series

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Charleston RiverDogs 12-5 Wednesday afternoon in front of 2,097 fans at State Mutual Stadium. The Braves sweep the series, outscoring the RiverDogs 42-17 over four games.

Rome scored the first run of the game in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Robert Hefflinger to plate L.V. Ware. Charleston tied the game 1-1 in the second on a Kelvin Castro triple to center to score DeAngelo Mack. The Braves took the lead for good in the second inning after scoring four taking the 5-1 lead. Matt Weaver scored on a Chris Curley sacrifice fly. A single to left by Jordan Kreke scored Ware. Kreke came home on a Hefflinger single and later scored on a Jake Hanson double.

Rome added six more runs in the third inning. A wild pitch scored Weaver followed by a sacrifice fly from L.V. Ware to plate Jace Whitmer for the 7-1 score. Hefflinger doubled to plate Kreke and later scored, along with Braeden Schlehuber, on a 2 RBI double from Hanson. A Christian Bethancourt double would score Hanson for the 11-1 lead.

Charleston scored twice in the fourth and two again in the fifth for the 11-5 score. The Braves added a final run in the seventh on an RBI groundout to plate Hefflinger for the 12-5 final.

Brett DeVall (1-2) earns the win for Rome while Kelvin Perez (2-2) is charged with his second loss of the season for Charleston.
