HAGERSTOWN, MD - The first two innings couldn't have gone much better for the Lakewood BlueClaws on Thursday night.

Offensively Lakewood hit a combined 6-for-10 through the middle of the second, managing one run against Suns starter Trevor Holder. Matt Way (0-2) was solid on the mound for the BlueClaws, making quick work of the Hagerstown lineup.

It all went downhill from there.

Through the next seven innings the BlueClaws would only pick up three hits, and Matt Way would run into trouble in the the bottom of the fourth.

Steven Souza led off with a double, and would score on an error by Adam Buschini. The BlueClaws third baseman couldn't handle a throw from shortstop Jonathan Villar, allowing Justin Bloxom to make it to second on a fielder's choice. Destin Hood then doubled Bloxom home to tie the game at two.

The nightmare inning continued when Darin Ruf dropped a foul ball popup on a 3-0 count to Adrian Nieto, who promptly singled to center putting runners on the corners for Marcus Jones. The Suns catcher made Lakewood pay by doubling home two to give Hagerstown a 4-2 edge.

That was all the offense they would need. Glenn Gibson (1-0), Patrick Arnold, and Dean Weaver would shutdown the BlueClaws, no-hitting them in 4.2 innings to secure the win.

The 4-4 BlueClaws now come home to FirstEnergy Park for their home opener Friday night. The 2009 Championship banner will be raised, there will be postgame fireworks, and fans will even be treated to a pregame flyover.

Brody Colvin will take the hill for the BlueClaws (0-1, 11.25) against Edgar Olmos (0-0, 5.40). First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
