Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

After beginning the game with six straight in the loss column, the Intimidators split the series with the Lexington Legends with consecutive wins, this one coming by the final score of 5-1. The Intimidators (2-6) set a season-high with 12 hits and starter Terry Doyle pitched seven full innings to earn his first win of the season.

Doyle (1-1) allowed five hits and walked three but did not allow a run to score for his second straight positive pitching performance. JR Ballinger allowed an unearned run in the eighth and Kyle Bellamy pitched a clean ninth for the Intimidators.

The Intimidators scored the game's first run for the first time this season as they tallied two in the first off Legends starter Robert Donovan (0-1). Donovan fired five strong innings, allowing four hits and two unearned runs. Daniel Wagner reached on an error to start the game, stole second and was doubled home by Nick Ciolli for the game's first run. A two-out double by Jorge Castillo made it 2-0 after the first.

The Intimidators were held at bay until the seventh as they struck three times. Wagner singled on a line drive off the glove of the second baseman to start things off before Brady Shoemaker doubled him over to third. With second and third and no one out, Ciolli singled in a run before a sacrifice fly from Castillo and a wild pitch plated two more runs making it 5-0.

The win is the second on the season for the Intimidators and they end the homestand 2-6 against southern division foes. The Intimidators hit the road for eight straight games beginning on Friday for the first of four with the Hickory Crawdads before four with the Rome Braves. The Intimidators will send Cameron Bayne (0-1) to the mound and he will be opposed by Matt Thompson (0-0).
