Blowfish Win Game Two, Split Doubleheader with Sharks

The Columbia Blowfish (10-15; 19-34) defeated the Wilmington Sharks (13-12; 26-27) by an 8-3 decision in game two of a doubleheader at Buck Hardee Field on Saturday night.

Wilmington continued the momentum from a walk-off victory in game one, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single by Kenny Bryant off Blowfish starting pitcher Matt Broderick.

The Blowfish fought back in the top of the second inning, scoring three runs off Sharks' starting pitcher Steven Richardson. DeMontez Jones drove in a run on a RBI single, scoring Rob Harding. Columbia added two more runs in the inning on a wild pitch and an error by Richardson to lead 3-1.

The Blowfish extended the lead in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Reggie Weatherford. Zach Smith and Tyler Jackson followed with back-to-back doubles, scoring Smith. Columbia added a third run on a wild pitch by Sharks' reliever Chris Dula to take a 6-1 lead.

Richardson (1-3) gave up six runs on seven hits in four and two-thirds innings.

The Sharks closed the gap in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run home run by Vickash Ramjit, off Broderick to give the Blowfish just a three-run lead, 6-3.

Broderick (1-2) gave up only three runs in five innings, picking up his first win of the season.

The Blowfish added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Brison Celek and Smith scoring on a wild pitch by Dula.

Jeff Murray retired the Sharks in order in the game's final two innings to pick up his fifth save of the season.

The Blowfish return to Columbia on Sunday to face Forest City in the team's final home game of the season. The Sharks will play Morehead City at home tomorrow.
