FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs used a five-run sixth inning to capture a 10-3 win over the Forest City Owls on Fan Appreciation Night at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

With the win, Fayetteville (32-20, 15-9) assures themselves of having home field advantage in the first round of the Petitt Cup playoffs, which begin Thursday, August 4. The SwampDogs will host game two on Friday, August 5 and game three - if necessary - on Saturday, August 6.

The offense came out on fire against the pitching staff with the second-best team ERA in the CPL. After Forest City (29-23, 13-12) scored the first two runs of the game, the SwampDogs responded with three in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good, highlighted by three straight singles by Sal Giardina, Jay Cannon, and Dylan Brown.

Cannon, in his first start since July 12 because of a hip injury, finished the game 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs scored, two of them on a wild pitch. Joe Vaskas hit his team-leading sixth homerun in the sixth inning of reliever Brennan Huelse to cap the five-run sixth inning and cement the 10-3 win.

Daniel Healy (3-1) suffered the defeat, giving up seven runs - six earned - on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Dom Macaluso (6-3) threw seven strong innings for the SwampDogs to earn the win, while Brandon Huffman pitched the final two innings and did not allow a run.

The SwampDogs head to Florence to begin a four-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch in game one is set for 5 p.m.
