Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush and Oklahoma City Blazers kicked off their doubleheader as the Rush were hoping to keep their momentum from their first shootout win on Wednesday. This wouldn't be the case for the Rush, as they fell to the Blazers, 4-2 in front of a sold out crowd.

Rapid City started the game off strong as they were the first to find the back of the net. Chris Lipsett picked up a shorthanded goal at the 3:45 mark of the first as his goal managed to find the back of net after a strange bounce off of Blazer netminder Doug Groenestege. Lipsett's tally was his 300th regular season goal and it was assisted by Blaine Jarvis. The Rush were the first to get on the board, but Oklahoma City dominated the shot column 19-9. The first period ended with the Rush up, 1-0.

Oklahoma City came out firing in the second period, and evened up the score early in the frame. At 3:35, Bill Vandermeer found the back of the net after he was set up by Tyler Harder and Bill Passmore. The scoring didn't stop there for the Blazers as they got one past Miguel Beaudry with less than one minute left in the period. Simon Lambert scored the go-ahead goal 19:11 into the period, with an assist by Bill Vandermeer as the Blazers goal was also a powerplay marker. This ended the middle frame with the Blazers up, 2-1.

The third period started off much like the second ended with the Blazers once again finding the back of the net at 5:56 into the period as Ted Vandermeer grabbed the Blazer goal. Vandermeer was assisted by Passmore who picked up his second assist of the night. The Rush would respond at 8:08 in the period when Blaine Jarvis would find the back of the net. Jarvis went unassisted on the goal that made the score 3-2. Rapid City's defense couldn't quite contain the Blazers as they picked up another goal 9:49 into the final frame. Chad Hinz tallied the goal for Oklahoma City as DJ Jelitto got the assist. This left the final score at 4-2.

Final powerplays heavily favored Oklahoma City as the Blazers went 1-for-10 on the man advantage while holding the Rush scoreless on 3 chances. Oklahoma City dominated the shot column 49-27.

Up next for the Rush is the second game of their doubleheader against Oklahoma City tomorrow at 7:05pm. Wear your pink as it is, "Pink At The Rink" night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The Rush will continue to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research with activities taking place during the game and a specialty jersey auction after the game.
