RiverKings Sweep Eagles in Colorado

(Loveland, CO) -- The Mississippi RiverKings tied Bossier-Shreveport for first place in the Northeast Division of the CHL and provided the first pair of back-to-back home losses Colorado has endured in three seasons with a 5-3 victory over the Eagles on Saturday night in Loveland.

Mississippi scored three times in the first period for a 3-0 lead after one period of play. Garrett Larson opened the scoring at 9:10, followed 19 seconds later with a goal from Adam Smyth at 9:29. Joe Markusen finished the first period scoring with a power play goal at 12:15.

Second period goals were scored by Adam Hogg for Colorado at 5:03, and Mississippi's Adam Smyth scoring his second goal of the game at 13:10 for a 4-1 lead after two periods.

Third period goals were scored by Colorado's Ed McGrane at 8:19 and Steve Haddon on Colorado at 16:33. Mississippi finished off the scoring with an empty net goal from Stephen Margeson at 19:02 for the final score.

Kevin Beech stopped 36 shots in posting his 26th victory of the season. Andrew Penner lost to Mississippi for the third straight time with a 20-save effort. Colorado out shot the RiverKings 39-25.

Mississippi was 1-for-3 on the power play and held Colorado scoreless on the power play.

Mississippi plays Sunday afternoon against Rocky Mountain in a game that starts at 4:05 PM Central.

The RiverKings' next home game will be Friday, February 20th against Wichita, which will be LeBonheur "Locks of Love" night, presented by Wilson Perry Salon and Day Spa.
