Jacks Fall Short in Marathon Finish

(North Richland Hills, TX) - The Odessa Jackalopes endured a marathon, 12-round shootout only to fall short as the Texas Brahmas defeated Odessa at the NYTEX Sports Centre on Saturday night. Texas now moves four points ahead of the Jackalopes for the top seed in the CHL's Southern Conference.

Jason Deitch scored the shootout winner, and Brett Jaeger stopped Odessa's Jeff Pierce in his second shootout attempt to preserve the 4-3 shoot win.

Odessa trailed 3-1 entering the third period, but fought back to tie the game with goals from Jeff Pierce and Russ Moyer - both on the power play. Pierce cut the deficit to one at 5:38 of the third on assists from Sebastien Thinel and Phil Plante. Moyer's game tying goal was 13:16 from Pierce and Mike Lesperance.

Dominic Leveille made it a two goal deficit for Odessa after the second period with a power play goal from Mike Ramsay and Mario Joly at 4:32.

Texas opened up a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals from Pete Rouleau, Brandon Benedict, and Kevin McLeod.

Pierce, Brian Swiniarski, and Kory Karlander scored the shootout goals for Odessa. Jordan Cameron and Brendan Benedict scored shootout goals for Texas along with Deitch who scored a pair of goals in the shootout.

Odessa's Juha Toivonen finished with 40 saves in the loss.

The Jackalopes begin a six game homestand this Friday when they host the Amarillo Gorillas at 7:05 PM at the Ector County Coliseum. It's the beginning of Legends Weekend and the game can be heard on 97 Gold.
