Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees saw their five-game winning streak snapped in a 3-2 loss to the Corpus Christi IceRays at the American Bank Center.

Chris Richards bagged the game-winner at 12:19 of the second for his 26th goal of the year. The goal marks Richards' 700th career CHL point, making him one of just five players to reach that plateau.

Topher Scott scored his sixth goal of the season just 56 seconds into the first period on helpers by Jesse Bennefield and Grant Goeckner-Zoeller. The goal is the quickest scored by Killer Bees from the start of a game this season.

The IceRays responded to take a 2-1 lead on goals by Adam Powell and Ryan Crane. Powell's goal, his 19th of the season, came off a thread from Ryan Bennett in the right corner.

Crane scored on a rebound at 14:03 after Justin Quenneville drove the net hard. RGV goalie Chris Boucher made the first save but was scrambling as Crane lifted the puck up high from five feet out.

Dennis Maxwell knotted things up, finishing a 2-on-1 set up by Brian Bicek at 18:12 of the first.

The Killer Bees complete a three-game road swing Saturday night at Corpus Christi. Face off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Listen live on Real Country 102.1 FM or watch online via the CHL Network.
