Bucks Dump Scorps On Valentine's Day 4-2

RIO RANCHO, NM- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the New Mexico Scorpions 4-2 Saturday night at the Santa Ana Star Center. The Bucks and the Texas Brahmas won Saturday night, keeping Laredo 10 points back of the Brahmas in the Southeast Division. The Bucks, who improve to 28-16-4 (60pts), move to within six points of Odessa for second place in the Conference standings.

Laredo improves to 2-0 on their season high five-game road trip.

With the game tied at 1-1 headed into the final frame, the Bucks scored three goals to take the win.

The Bucks took the lead just 18 seconds into the third period when Matt Miller hammered a slap shot from the right point past Kyle McNulty. The goal was Miller's 10th of the season.

Igor Agarunov gave the Bucks a 3-1 lead when he jammed in a rebound 2:47 into the third. The strike was Agarunov's 10th of the campaign.

The Scorps would cut the Bucks lead to 3-2 when Tom Maldonado struck from the slot with 13:46 left in the game.

Laredo would ice the game with four seconds left when Brent Cullaton scored an empty net goal on the power-play to make it 4-2.

Andrew Martin stopped 21 of 23 shots for the Bucks, to pick up the win against his former team.

The Bucks have now won eight straight regular season games against the Scorpions.

The Bucks jumped out in front of the Scorpions 1-0 , 7:32 into the first period, when Darryl Smith took a pass from Brent Cullaton on a two-on-one break and sent a backhander past Kyle McNulty. The strike was Smith's team-leading 28th of the season, with Cullaton (43) and Serge Dube (26) picking up assists.

Laredo has scored first in just seven of their last 23 games.

The Scorpions would even the score at 1-1 with 4:07 left in the first period. Craig Macdonald was left wide open at the right side of the crease and jammed a one-timer off of the pass from Seth Leonard. The goal was Macdonald's team-leading 27th of the season.

Laredo outshot New Mexico 7-5 in the first period.

The second period was scoreless, as neither the Bucks or the Scorpions could light the lamp.

New Mexico outshot Laredo in the second period 11-6.

McNulty set aside of 22 Bucks shots to suffer the loss.

The Bucks will complete their season high five-game road trip with a three-in-three next weekend, when they travel to Texas on Friday, and Amarillo on Saturday and Sunday.

Laredo will return home for the final Big Buck Thirsty Thursday of the season on February 26th when they host Arizona at the LEC, where beer will be $2 all game long.
