February 14, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(North Richland Hills, TX) - A dump from the center ice red line turned into an unlikely goal as the Texas Brahmas snuck past the Odessa Jackalopes, 3-2, at the NYTEX Sports Center on Friday night. Texas is now three points ahead of Odessa for the top record in the Southern Conference.
The Brahmas' Nathan Saunders was the one responsible for the game winning goal after his dump from the red line at 10:43 of the third period slipped past Odessa's Jeremy Symington - less than a minute after Collin Circelli tied the game for the Jackalopes at 2-2 on a goal from Sebastien Thinel and Phil Plante.
The Jackalopes trailed 2-0 at the beginning of the third period, but closed the gap to one on a power play goal from Mike Lesperance 2:21 into the period. Russ Moyer had the assist.
Kevin McLeod broke a scoreless tie with a pair of goals in the second period for the Brahmas. The first at 8:23 and the other at 10:54 of the period.
After pulling their goalie, Odessa had a 6-on-3 man advantage with :25 left in regulation but could score. Symington and Texas' Brett Jaeger each make 30 saves in the game.
The Jacks and Brahmas close the weekend set of games Saturday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre at 7:05 PM. The game can be heard on 97 Gold.
The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is currently in its 12th season. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
