New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-In another tight battle, Laredo edged the Scorpions 4-2 on Saturday night. The loss dropped New Mexico to 3-2 on their current six-game home stand.
Laredo's Brent Cullaton feathered a pass to teammate Darryl Smith through the middle of the New Mexico zone. Smith was able to get his stick on the puck and tip it into the net making it 1-0 for Laredo.
New Mexico answered with a beautiful back door play. Seth Leonard found Craig Macdonald across the ice and delivered a perfect circle to circle pass. Macdonald one timed the puck past goalie Andrew Martin, knotting the game at one.
Laredo struck early in the third period as Matt Miller's slap shot lit the lamp just 18 seconds in. They grabbed their first two-goal edge as Igor Agarunov wristed a rebound into the Scorps' net.
New Mexico cut the lead in half on an acrobatic goal. Tom Maldonado deflected the puck out of midair and into the net 7:17 into the final frame. Cullaton added a late empty net, power play goal to put the game out of reach.
The Scorpions finish their home stand with their annual Kids Day Game this Tuesday. Over 5,000 school children will be at the Santa Ana Star Center starting at 10:30 a.m.
Group tickets specials are available for as little as 10 people. Call the Scorpions' office at (505) 881-PUCK (7825) or visit www.scorpionshockey.com to find out more information about your professional hockey team. The Scorpions have been named the 2008 Rio Rancho Rotary Business of the Year.
