Kamloops Blazers News Release
The Kamloops Blazers (22-15-3-4) ended their five-game road trip with a 2-1 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Sunday night.
Matthew Campese scored the game's first goal 13:56 into the first period. He came streaking to the net and one-timed a pass from Jermaine Loewen past goaltender Payton Lee.
It was Campese's fourth goal of the road trip and seventh of the season.
The Oil Kings tied the game up as Kole Gable put a shot just under the crossbar and by goaltender Connor Ingram.
These two teams were tied 1-1 through the first period with shots tied 9-9.
There was no scoring in the second period as two tired teams were going at it. The Oil Kings were playing their third game in as many nights, while the Blazers were finishing off a five game road trip that started in Portland last week.
Collin Shirley broke the tie with 3:36 left in the third period. 16-year-old Erik Miller, who is from just outside Edmonton in Sherwood Park, AB, put the puck behind the net. Shirley picked up the puck and put a wraparound on goal that beat Lee on the far pad.
The Blazers did not give up much in the final 3:36 as they went on to win 2-1 in Edmonton.
Connor Ingram had a solid night in goal with 34 saves, while Payton Lee stopped 26 shots.
The Blazers were 0-for-1 on the power play, while the Oil Kings finished 0-for-2.
The Blazers return home for a game on Wednesday night when they host the Everett Silvertips. Game time is 7:00pm at the Sandman Centre.
