
Winterhawks Beat Giants 3-2

Portland, OR - The Portland Winterhawks got past the Vancouver Giants 3-2 on Monday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Taylor Crunk and Matt Barberis scored Vancouver's goals while Ryan Kubic stopped 27 of 30 shots in the Giants' crease.
Detroit Red Wings prospect Dominic Turgeon opened the scoring for Portland on a power play early in the second period, beating Kubic with a one-timer from the slot. Blake Heinrich made it 2-0 for the home team just 1:21 later, knocking home the rebound of a Turgeon shot. Crunk pulled the Giants back to within one goal before the end of the period when he deflected Barberis' point shot past Portland goalie Adin Hill.
Ryan Hughes restored the Winterhawks' two goal lead early in the third period, beating Kubic with a wrist shot off the rush from the high slot. Barberis scored on a point shot to make it 3-2, but Vancouver was unable to tie the game.
The Giants return to action on Tuesday night when they visit the Tri-City Americans. The face-off will be at 7:05pm.
