Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (34-16-2) bounced back after seeing their four-game winning streak end a night ago by thumping the Augusta Lynx (30-22-3) by a final score of 7-2 on Saturday night at Germain Arena in front of a crowd of 6,026. The 'Blades picked up the offensive fire power from rookie Jarret Lukin (2g, 1a) and Ernie Harlieb (four assists), while goaltender Craig Kowalski turned away 44 of 46 shots.
The Everblades came out strong, scoring three first period goals to carry a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. David Brine brought the crowd to their feet early scoring his ninth goal of the season just 1:03 into the contest on assists from Brett Peterson and Ryan Brindley. The Everblades extended the lead to 2-0 at 8:56 when Derek Damon chipped a back-hand shot over the glove of Augusta net minder Dave McKee for his 12th goal of the season. Dustin Johner and Hartlieb assisted. Before the period ended Adam Taylor tallied the eventual game-winner on the power play at 18:41. Brad Parsons and Lukin assisted on Taylor's 16th goal of the season.
As the second period began, Augusta came with jump in their step scoring 2:35 into the frame when Sean Blanchard banged home a rebound for his 11th goal of the season. Sensing the Lynx increasing pressure the Everblades used their 30-second time out midway through the period and shortly after regained their three-goal advantage. Brad Zancanaro finished off a 2-on-1 rush with Frank MacDonald at 12:50 of the second period to open a 4-1 lead. Parsons added a late second period power play goal, tallying with just 27 seconds remaining in the frame, picking up a rebound off a MacDonald shot from the left point, and slipping it past McKee. Hartlieb added the second assist on Parsons' sixth goal of the year.
Leading 5-1 entering the third period, the Everblades increased the advantage to five when Lukin tipped Hartlieb's point shot past McKee for a 5-on-3 power play goal 2:25 into the period. The Lynx notched their second goal of the night at 7:19 when Brian Passmore tipped a rebound past Kowalski for his 14th goal of the season, but Lukin would once again find the back of the net to put the 'Blades back up by five. Lukin's second of the night and third of the season came with 1:58 left in the game and just as an Everblades power play concluded.
Kowalski (21-9-1) helped the Everblades improve to 5-0-0 vs. Augusta this season with his seventh win in his last nine starts. McKee saw his record fall to 23-11-2 after allowing the seven goals on 31 shots.
On the power play, the Everblades closed out the night 3-for-8, while the Lynx finished the game 0-for-4.
