Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (February 24, 2007) - In a game that saw a combined 152 penalty minutes Scott Bertoli's four-point night (2g, 2a), including the 500th point of his professional career, led the charge in a 7-1 triumph for the Trenton Titans over Cincinnati Cyclones Saturday night at the Sovereign Bank Arena.
The 4,712 in attendance saw the Titans fall behind at 14:35 of the first period on a fluke goal by Cyclones forward Sam Ftorek. With his team getting back to full strength after a penalty kill, Ftorek fired a slap slapshot from center ice that deflected off a stick en route to Gregg Naumenko and found the back of the net.
Later in the period Bertoli picked up point number 500 of his career and helped tie the game sending a pass to Benoit Mondou, who cut by a defenseman before beating Ben Gray with wrist from the bottom of the near circle. With the assist, Bertoli extended his scoring to ten games during which he posted 21 points (7g, 14a). Trenton would take the lead for good with just 30.8 left until the first intermission as Bertoli found some room on the left wing before throwing the puck into the top corner for a power play goal that made it 2-1.
From there the rout was on as the Titans picked up five goals and totaled 140 minutes of penalties with the Cyclones over the remaining two periods of the play.
Luis Tremblay notched his first marker as a Trenton Titan 1:47 into the middle stanza as his point shot deflected off traffic in front and across the goal line to up the score 3-1.
Another milestone was reached during the contest when Jim Henkel scored a 4-on-3 power play goal for his 100th career goal and a three-goal Titans lead.
Mark Pandolfo added two more for Trenton and Bertoli also notched his second of the evening to complete the scoring.
Naumenko registered the win with his 25-save performance, while the Titans finished the game 3-for-8 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The Trenton Titans complete their weekend with a Sunday matinee against the Wheeling Nailers on February 25 at 4:00pm. Tune into WBCB-1490AM to listen to all of the Titans' action or go to www.trentontitans.com to listen or watch live courtesy of b2 Networks.
