Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades are proud to announce that their fans helped raised $26,121 for donation to three different charities with a pair of jersey auctions during the month.
On January 3 the Everblades hosted their "NHL Night" in which the players wore the jerseys of their NHL affiliate, the Carolina Hurricanes. Those jerseys featured a patch supporting Autism Speaks and were placed up for on-line auction for 10 days after the game. The 18 jerseys worn by the Everblades' players that night raised $4,500 that was donated to the local SW Florida Autism Speaks chapter.
The Everblades followed that up with their special "Beach Night" jerseys that were worn on January 24. The beach themed jerseys featured a special patch honoring the memory of Ft. Myers police officer Andrew Widman, who was killed in the line of duty in July, 2008. In all, 22 jerseys were auctioned off live after the game and raised an impressive $21,621! Of this money raised $12,000 was donated to Officer Widman's family. The remaining $9,621 was donated to the Deb Kelsey Fund which benefits underprivileged children by giving them a chance to play ice hockey.
