Blades Fall 3-2 to Oil Kings in Contentious Loss

Saskatoon, SK - The Saskatoon Blades lost a controversial 3-2 decision to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday night in Saskatoon.

Koen MacInnes made 27 saves in his seventh straight start while Evan Patrician got his first goal as Blade and Colton Dach extended his point streak to four games.

The teams got off to a high paced start that saw them play to a tie around the half point of the opening period before Saskatoon would start the scoring. Dach went up the left wing and stole the puck from an Oil King at the blueline before streaking in and shooting bar-down for his seventh goal of the season to put the Blades up 1-0. Moments later the Oil Kings would look to tie the game but it was MacInnes who stood tall and made a nice pad save in tight. The first period would end with the Blades up 1-0.

In the second period there was once again no scoring by the halfway point as the Blades killed off two straight penalties. Patrician's first as a Blade came with just over four minutes to play in the period as a puck bounced out to him up top and he fired it home a rising shot to put the Blades up 2-0. Edmonton would reply just moments later as the period ended 2-1 good guys.

The Oil Kings tied the game in the third period on a play that appeared to be offside on a clearing attempt by the Blades. Then, with just under six minutes to play, Edmonton took the lead on yet another controversial goal as it appeared the Oil Kings iced the puck yet play was allowed to play and the visitors scored. Saskatoon would unfortunately lose this one 3-2.

With the win, the Edmonton Oil Kings take the season series against the Blades 3-0-0-1. All four games between Saskatoon and the top Eastern team were decided by just one goal.

The Blades have a quick turnaround and play their third game game in three nights, taking on the Pats at 4pm on Sunday afternoon in Regina.
