
Blades End Road Trip With 8-1 Loss To Ice

The Saskatoon Blades saw their six-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night with an 8-1 loss to the Kootenay Ice.
Darian Dziurzynski (Lloydminster, AB) scored the lone goal in the contest for a Blades team that had won the first five games of the team's six-game road trip.
Saskatoon - 1st - Dziurzynski (Toomey) 10:56 Dziurzynski gave the Blades a 1-0 lead for the sixth straight game after jamming home his own rebound to get his 4th of the season.
Kootenay - 1st - Dustin Sylvester (Kevin King, Todd Mathews) 15:40 Sylvester evened the score after finding some open ice in the Blades' zone and wiring home his 21st of the season.
Kootenay - 2nd - Sylvester (King, Boomer) 1:08 Sylvester gave the Ice the lead with his second of the night early in the middle frame.
Kootenay - 2nd - Matt Fraser (Jesse Ismond) 1:34 The Ice went up 3-1 just 26 seconds later as Fraser grabbed his 17th of the season.
Kootenay - 2nd - Brock Montgomery (Hayden Rintoul, Petr Senkerik) 6:50 Montgomery gave the Ice a three-goal lead after picking the top shelf over Blades' goaltender Steven Stanford's (Calgary, AB) shoulder for his 8th of the year.
Kootenay - 2nd - Montgomery (Ryan Molle, Joey Leach) 15:59 Montgomery got his second of the night and 9th of the season after grabbing a loose puck in front of the net and it was a 5-1 hockey game.
Kootenay - 2nd - Drew Czerwonka (Montgomery, James Martin) 19:30 The game went to 6-1 on Czerwonka's 3rd on the campaign after the second-year forward caught the Blades' defense flatfooted in the neutral zone.
Kootenay - 3rd - Sylvester (Boomer, Mathews) 4:22 The Ice captain picked up his hat trick goal on a 3-on-2 rush into the Blades' zone to make it 7-1 for the home squad.
Kootenay - 3rd - Joe Antilla (Martin, Czerwonka) 16:06 The game went to 8-1 after Antilla grabbed a rebound off of a point shot from Martin and put home his 11th of the year.
Stanford got the start in the Blades' net and stopped 26 of 32 shots to take the loss. Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC) came on in relief and made 4 saves in one period of work. Mathews turned aside 21 of 22 shots in the Kootenay net to earn the victory.
Final score Kootenay Ice 7, Saskatoon Blades 1.
With the loss, the Blades' record falls to 29-8-1-3 and keeps the team at 62 points on the season. The Ice, meanwhile, picked up their seventh straight victory and now has a 23-15-1-2 record for 49 points, putting the team into 5th place in the Eastern Conference.
The game brings to an end the Blades six-game road trip. The team returns to Saskatoon and will take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes this Saturday at Credit Union Centre. Game time is 7:05 pm. Tickets are available online at ticketmaster.ca, by calling 938-7800, or by visiting any Ticketmaster outlet.
