Chiefs Fall on the Road
January 6, 2010 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
The Saskatoon Blades Josh Nicholls scored two goals and added an assist and helped them to a 5-4 road game on Tuesday night in the Spokane Arena. All the scoring took place in the first two periods and featured a two goal first period Saskatoon lead before Spokane scored three in a row to take a 3-2 lead in a back-and-forth contest.
Saskatoon's Randy McNaught and Travis Toomey scored at 7:14 and 10:53 for the first two goals before Kyle Beach scored his team leading 27th of the season at 12:29. The goal came on the power play and was set up by Jared Spurgeon and Steve Kuhn.
The Chiefs scored goals 47-seconds apart and took a 3-2 advantage with goals by Mitch Wahl, his 16th at 4:11, and Kuhn at 4:58. Saskatoon tied it up at 8:26, but the Chiefs took the lead back at 8:46 when Mike Aviani scored his first career WHL goal. Aviani, the Chiefs fifth round selection in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft, was playing in his seventh game of the season after getting called up while the Chiefs were missing five regulars at various tournaments.
Nicholls scored his two goals at 15:56 and 16:21 for the equalizer and the game winner.
The Chiefs were 1-3 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill and were outshot 36-37.
Spokane will play three games in three nights this week with home games on Friday, against Chilliwack, and the first place Tri-City Americans on Saturday night.
Tickets for all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
