Hurricanes To Host Pink In The Rink January 15th & 16th
January 6, 2010 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
Lethbridge, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes are very proud to invite the public to participate in a unique event designed to raise monies for a charity that is dedicated to finding the cure for a disease that has touched all of our lives. The Hurricanes 1st annual "Pink In The Rink" promotion will serve as an opportunity to raise awareness about breast cancer as well as funds for the Canadian Cancer Society with the help of community-minded businesses as well as the fans, players and staff of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
This weekend-long event will kick off on January 15th with the Canes Friday night matchup with the Spokane Chiefs and will end the following night (January 16th) in the Canes Saturday night match up with the Calgary Hitmen. The opening faceoff ceremony of the Friday game will be headlined by a visit from the Olympic torch as the flame passes through Lethbridge. On both of these nights, everyone is encouraged to wear pink as we attempt to turn the ENMAX Centre pink and recognize all those that are fighting the disease, those taken from us, as well as those amazing individuals who are survivors and family members of survivors.
The Hurricanes themselves will be wearing specially designed pink jerseys that will be auctioned off in a silent auction format, ending at the conclusion of the second game. Proceeds from the jerseys will support the Canadian Cancer Society and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Along with the proceeds from the jersey auction, funds will also be raised through the intermission promotions and donations. Also, in a player driven initiative, a number of the Lethbridge Hurricanes have stepped forward and volunteered to have their heads shaven at the end of the second game to show their support and commitment to this cause. For more information on how you or your company can get involved contact the Hurricanes office at 403 328-1986.
