Saskatoon Blades News Release
The Saskatoon Blades came up short on Friday night, dropping a 4-3 decision to the Prince Albert Raiders at Credit Union Centre.
The loss gives the Blades a 2-2 preseason record heading into the final exhibition game Saturday night in Regina.
The Raiders held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 after the first and second periods, while outshooting the Blades 9-8 and 24-19 to close out the periods.
Curtis Hamilton, Brent Benson, and Chris Langkow all had a goal and an assist to pace the Blades.
Chris Sharkey got the start in goal making 18 saves on 19 shots in just over 31 minutes of work. Matthew Krahn came in in relief and made 11 saves on 14 shots in just over 26 minutes of work, before being pulled most of the final two minutes of play for an extra attacker.
The Blades open the 2009-10 Regular Season next Friday, September 18th, against the Regina Pats at Credit Union Centre in the 92.9 The Bull Home Opener. Doors open at 5:30 pm. The Blades will be debuting the Reebok EDGE Uniform System and prior to puck drop will raise the 2008-09 East Division Banner. BLADES GOAL OF THE GAME
A untouched Langkow takes the puck off the left side half wall in the Raiders end and goes wide on Raider goaltender Jacob Edwards before losing control of the puck. The 20-year-old then regains control of the puck, spinning and shooting a backhand that sneaks under the pad of a surprised Edwards.
BLADES SAVE OF THE GAME
Krahn stops a flurry of Raider shots early in the third period. Brandon Herrod begins the firing gallery, taking a shot from the left boards. The rebound squirts out to Justin Maylan, who is robbed by a fallen Krahn. The second rebound comes to Dustin Cameron, who is stopped by Krahn at the side of the net.
BLADES HIT OF THE GAME
Brendon Wall catches Raider Igor Revenko with a shoulder in open ice just outside the Blades blue line late in the 3rd period, sending the forward to the ice.
