Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba -- The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings will be busy, both on and off the ice, this weekend as they continue preparations for the 2009-10 regular season.
In addition to back to back pre-season games, including Friday night's exhibition tilt at 7:30 p.m. against Moose Jaw, the Wheat Kings will be turning in their sticks and skates to help out the 2009 Wag-a-Tail Walkathon Sunday morning at the Riverbank Discovery Centre.
Veterans Jay Fehr, Aaron Lewadniuk, Mark Stone, Mark Schneider and Jordan Hale will be helping out with the barbecue during Sunday's event, in support of the Brandon Humane Society.
This year's Walkathon kicks off at 9 a.m. with registration. Western Manitoba hockey fans and their favorite canines will have the opportunity to walk one of two routes between 9 and 11 a.m. A barbecue, featuring the Wheat King players will begin at approximately 10 a.m.
All proceeds from the Walk-a-Thon will benefit the Brandon Humane Society, who provides shelter to over 400 lost, unwanted, abused or abandoned animals each year.
The Brandon Humane Society is a non-profit charity governed by a volunteer board of directors. All operating costs are completely covered by donations and special events.
In other off ice news, Friday is Season Ticket Pick-up Day at the Keystone Centre's South Parking lot. Season Ticket holders are encouraged to stop by to pick up their tickets, order their 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup ticket packages and check out the Wheat Kings' new Edge Reebok replica jerseys.
Well over 3,300 Season Tickets have been sold for the upcoming campaign. The Wheat Kings will close out their 4-game pre-season schedule Saturday night in Moose Jaw.
