Florida Everblades News Release
AUGUSTA, GA - The Florida Everblades (9-2-1) notched their seventh straight win and third in a row over the Augusta Lynx (5-6-2) after battling from behind to pick up a 2-1 win on Friday night at James Brown Arena.
After a scoreless first period that saw the Everblades out-chance the Lynx and out shoot them 15-8, both teams finally found the back of the net with a power play goal in the second period of play. Augusta was the first to dent the twine after rushing into the offensive zone as a four-on-four situation ended putting them on the man advantage. Everblades goaltender David Leggio made two big saves on the initial rush, but Matt Auffrey's shot from the right circle caromed off his leg pads to Patrick Bordeleau who chipped the puck over the sprawling Everblades net minder for a 1-0 lead at 8:20.
The Everblades, who out-shot Augusta 15-9 in the second period managed to even the score at 11:50 after Ross Carlson poked the puck across the line from a mad scramble at the left side of the Lynx net. The goal however was disputed by Augusta and was counted after a conference by the officials. Peter Metcalf and Yannick Tifu collected the assists on Carlson's seventh goal of the season and fourth in his last two.
In the third period, a key face-off win led to the eventual game-winning goal. Early in the frame, the Everblades won a right side draw that Doug O'Brien pushed in low. Ryan Lang collected the puck and from behind the goal line fed a perfect pass to Kevin Baker in the right circle, who one-timed a shot past Lynx net-minder Mike Brodeur at 4:05.
The Everblades and Leggio, held strong down the stretch limiting Augusta to just four third period shots. Leggio came up big on two of the those shots, first stopping Chase Watson on a short-handed breakaway midway through the frame, then stopping Watson's shot from the left circle in the dying seconds of regulation on a save that bounced off the rookie net-minders shoulder and rolled wide of the net.
Overall Leggio (4-1-1) stopped 20 shots en-route to his third straight win. Brodeur suffered the tough-luck loss after making 40 saves, but saw his record fall to 1-2-1.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 1-of-10, while the Lynx finished the night 1-of-6.
