Black Bears Blow Past Cyclones, 8-1

The West Virginia Black Bears' offense exploded for five runs in the second inning as they defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones 8-1 on Wednesday night at Monongalia County Ballpark. The team extends its winning streak to five games with the victory and improves to 16-16 on the season while Brooklyn falls to 18-13 overall.

The Black Bears took the early 1-0 advantage in the first inning when LF Ty Moore delivered an RBI single, scoring 2B Kevin Kramer who walked to lead off the inning. Brooklyn answered back in the top of the second on a deep solo shot by DH Jeff Diehl to tie the game at 1-1.

The West Virginia offense erupted in the bottom of the second starting off with an RBI single up the middle by C Christian Kelley, bringing home LF Ryan Nagle. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, CF Casey Hughston scored on a wild pitch to extend the Black Bears' lead to 3-1. Kramer then delivered a hard-hit RBI single to left-field in which SS Kevin Newman then reached on a fielder's choice, leaving runners at first and second. The runners then advanced on a double steal before RF Logan Hill delivered a two-run single to collect his league-leading 29th RBI.

The offense didn't stop there for the Black Bears. In the third inning, Kelley scored from second when the pitcher attempted to pickoff 3B Mitchell Tolman, but sailed the ball into the outfield. Tolman later scored on a wild pitch to give the Black Bears a 8-1 lead.

SP Dario Agrazal improved his record to 4-1 this season after tossing 5.0 innings, allowing only one run and scattering five hits. Pitchers Cesliio Pimentel, Daniel Zamora, and Sean Keselica combined to pitch four scoreless innings of relief to back up Agrazal's strong performance. Brooklyn's Matt Blackham took the loss (2-2) after exiting the game with only one out in the second inning.

Moore led the way offensively for the Black Bears, going 3-for-5 at the plate while Kelley finished the night going 2-for-4. Hill collected two RBI's in the game, improving his RBI total to 29 this season while Kramer also drove in a run for West Virginia.

The Black Bears return home Thursday, July 22 to play the Brooklyn Cyclones in the series finale with a schedule first pitch of 7:05 p.m. RHP Luis Paula will be on the mound for the Black Bears while Brooklyn will send LHP Kevin Canelon to the hill. The first 1,000 fans attending the game will receive a Black Bears Rally Towel provided by Mylan Pharmaceuticals.
