Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Wappingers Falls, NY (7/22/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Williamsport Crosscutters by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday evening at Dutchess Stadium. With the victory, Hudson Valley improves their record to 18-13 and Williamsport falls to 21-11.
Neither team scored a run until the top of the fifth inning when Williamsport's catcher Austin Bossart singled, a run scored due to a fielding error. But Hudson Valley struck right back in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run single by left fielder Joe McCarthy.
The Crosscutters scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning on a RBI sacrifice fly by center fielder Mark Laird and a RBI double by first baseman Brendon Hayden, giving Williamsport a 3-2 lead. The Renegades reclaimed the lead at 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning on a RBI single from McCarthy and a RBI sacrifice fly from right fielder Manny Sanchez.
Reese Karalus (2-0) pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Renegades starting pitcher Roel Ramirez, who gave up three runs and two earned runs in six innings. Karalus had to get out of a jam with runners on first and second base with no outs in the top of the eighth inning. But he induced right fielder Jose Pujols to hit into a double play and struck out Hayden, stranding the tying run at third base. Hudson Valley picked up an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a RBI single from first baseman Nic Wilson, giving the Renegades a 5-3 lead.
Brandon Koch pitched a three-up, three-down top of the ninth inning to pick up his second save of the season. Williamsport's reliever Andrew Godail (0-1) took the loss as he gave up three runs in two innings of work.
Notes: Joe McCarthy has been on a RBI spree over the past three games. Dating back to the game at Connecticut on Monday, July 20th, the Renegades outfielder has driven in seven runs during that span, including the three RBI in tonight's contest. McCarthy currently has eight RBI on the 2015 season in 15 games played.
The Renegades conclude their three-game series against Williamsport on Thursday, July 23rd with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. Thursday night is "Taylor Swiffer Night" at Dutchess Stadium, presented by Taylor Oil & Propane. Call 845-838-0094, or visit www.hvrenegades.com to purchase your tickets now.
