Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

Buffalo, N.Y. - There are doubleheader sweeps and then there's what happened to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) on Wednesday night. The Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays) rode a walk-off homer to a 1-0 win in the opener and used a pair of bases-loaded walks in the nightcap for a 3-1 triumph. The RailRiders have lost four in a row to fall a season-worst six games under .500 at 40-46. Buffalo improved to 45-40.

The RailRiders had two men thrown out at the plate and left the bases loaded in the eighth inning of the opener. In the home half of the same frame, former RailRider Dan Johnson bombed his league-best 17th home run to right off reliever Matt Daley (1-2) to win it. Ryan Tepera (3-3) got the win in relief for Buffalo. It spoiled a solid start by Shane Greene who struck out seven over six-plus scoreless innings.

In the nightcap, Taylor Dugas' first career Triple-A triple scored Corban Joseph from first base in the second inning for a brief 1-0 lead. Starter Nik Turley (0-1) allowed just one hit, a leadoff double to Erik Kratz in the fourth. Johnson then worked his league-best 71st walk and Jared Goedert reached on a missed catch error on Jose Pirela in right. Mike Nickeas then walked in the tying run and after Ryan Schrimpf popped out, Jonathan Diaz walked for the go-ahead RBI.

The Bisons added to their lead in the sixth when Nickeas scored from third on an Austin Romine passed ball. The rehabbing Brett Cecil (1-0) got the win in relief while Steve Delabar posted his first Buffalo save of the year.

The RailRiders conclude the short three-game, two-day journey to Buffalo on Thursday at 6:05 p.m. Right-hander Chris Leroux (1-2, 7.94) gets the ball for SWB against fellow right-hander Esmil Rogers (2-1, 3.10).
