Louisville's Gotay and Perez Named IL All-Stars

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville Bats second baseman Ruben Gotay and right fielder Felix Perez have been selected to participate in the 27th Annual Triple-A All-Star Game, the International League announced Wednesday. Both players were selected by the league to play for the International League All-Stars as they take on the Pacific Coast League All-Stars on July 16 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.
This season will mark the second straight in which the Bats have sent multiple players to the Triple-A All-Star Game. Center fielder Billy Hamilton and starting pitcher Greg Reynolds represented Louisville at the 2013 game in Reno, Nev.
Gotay, 31, leads the IL in runs scored (57) and total bases (148). He is tied for third in the league in RBIs (49), and is tied for fourth in the IL in home runs (14). All of those marks are good for the most among his Louisville teammates. Last season with Double-A Springfield, Gotay was a mid-season and post-season Texas League All-Star. A Major League veteran of four seasons with three different clubs (Kansas City Royals, Florida Marlins and Atlanta Braves), Gotay compiled an 11-game hitting streak from May 4 thru May 15, hitting .313 during the streak including a game in which he drove in 5 runs, the highest mark by a Louisville player this season to date.
Perez, 29, leads Louisville in average (.302) and slugging percentage (.522). His slugging percentage is good for third in the IL behind fellow All-Star outfielder Steven Souza (Syracuse Chiefs) and current Pittsburgh Pirate Gregory Polanco. Perez is in his fourth season in a Louisville uniform and is an IL All-Star for the first time in his career. In the month of May, Perez led the IL in RBI (28), extra-base hits (21) and total bases (21). Last season, he led the Bats in RBI with 65. In 2012, he was the Louisville leader with a .301 batting average that was also sixth-best in the International League.
The 2014 Cree Triple-A All-Star Game will be broadcast live from Durham on MLB Network, the American Forces Network and the Triple-A All-Star Game Radio Network beginning at 7 p.m. EST on Wednesday, July 16.
