Today's Game

Tonight, the Bisons take on the Syracuse Chiefs in the first two games of a three-game series from NBT Bank Stadium (Game 1: 4:05 p.m.). Buffalo is coming off a four-game series split in Pawtucket to open the 2016 season. The Herd returns to Western New York Thursday for the Home Opener against the Rochester Red Wings.

vs. Syracuse (0-0)

The Bisons and Chiefs will face each other 17 times this year, four less than the 21 times they met last year. The Bisons were 12-9 against the Chiefs in 2015. Syracuse has not played since sweeping a doubleheader on Friday in Lehigh Valley as the NBT Bank Stadium was unplayable.

Chris Leroux

RHP Chris Leroux has been activated to the Bisons, nine days after being acquired by Toronto in a trade with Philadelphia. Leroux went to Spring camp with the Phillies and was 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in five appearances (6.0IP). The righty split 2015 between the Brewers and Phillies organization, going 4-6 with a 3.90 ERA in 30 outings.

Casey Lawrence

RHP Casey Lawrence gets the start in game two after a promotion from Double-A New Hampshire. Lawrence had yet to pitch for the Fisher Cats this year. In 2015, the righty was 12-13 with a 4.52 ERA for New Hampshire while making one spot start for the Herd. Lawrence lost to Louisville on May 2 after allowing four runs in 6.1 innings.

Monster Montero

DH Jesus Montero had a single, two doubles and a home run while driving in five of the Bisons' nine runs on Sunday. He is the first Bison batter with a 4H/5RBI game since 1B Brett Wallace went 4-6 with three homers and six RBI on August 24, 2014. Montero had 41 extra-base hits and 74 RBI in only 97 games for Triple-A Tacoma in 2015.

Not Yet Switch Pitcher

SHP Pat Venditte has made two appearances this year, but has only needed to throw with his right arm. Venditte pitched a shutout inning on Saturday and Sunday, racking up five strikeouts in only six batters faced -all right-handed hitters. Last season in Oakland, 18 of Venditte's 23 strikeouts in 26 appearances came against left-handed batters.

Bisons Bits

1B Casey Kotchman is the only Herd hitter to have reached base in all four games with a .417 (5-12) average and two walks...Buffalo gave up just two runs after the fifth inning in their four-game series in Pawtucket...In three of the Herd's four games, its starter has allowed just one run in five innings of work -RHP Drew Hutchison on Friday, LHP Scott Diamond on Saturday and LHP Wade LeBlanc yesterday...Bisons pitchers have 34 strikeouts to only 26 hits allowed.

Blue Jays Update

The Blue Jays (3-4) snapped their four-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Boston on Sunday. RHP Marco Estrada was activated off the disabled list and delivered eight strikeouts over seven shutout innings. DH Josh Donaldson hit his fourth home run in the win while former Bisons' 2B Ryan Goins was 2-2 with a double. Toronto hosts the Yankees tonight.
