Buffalo Bisons News Release

After missing the first four games of the season, Dalton Pompey was sure to make his impact felt when he finally got into the lineup in 2016.

The 23-year old outfield prospect had four hits and a pair of runs scored as the Bisons split a doubleheader on Tuesday night from Syracuse. Pompey scored both runs in the Herd's 2-0 game one win before adding three singles and his first stolen base of the year in the nightcap that Buffalo dropped, 4-2.

It was a bruised toe that kept the speedster Pompey from appearing in any of the Bisons' first four contests in Pawtucket. He wasted little time showing he was back at 100%. Pompey led off the game with a line drive single and gave the Herd the lead when Jesus Montero lined a sacrifice into centerfield.

Then in the third, Pompey displayed the good wheels by scoring all the way from first base after drawing a free pass in front of Andy Burns' double.

In game two, Pompey added three more hits to end his first day of 2016 with four hits and a walk in seven plate appearances. Though he did not score in the Herd's defeat, he did pick up his first stolen base when he swiped second in the third inning.

Veteran Chris Leroux made his Bisons debut in game one, allowing just one hit in four innings of work on the mound. He gave way to the winner Chad Girodo, who added two shutout frames before David Aardsma's second save of the season.

Another newcomer, Casey Lawrence got the start in game two for the Herd. Promoted from Double-A New Hampshire, Lawrence was hit for three runs on eight hits over three innings in taking the loss in the nightcap.

Buffalo did have their chances in game two to overcome the early 3-1 deficit. Humberto Quintero doubled home David Adams with one out in the fifth but was left stranded at third when Burns hit into an inning-ending doubleplay. Trailing 4-2, Buffalo got the first two aboard in the sixth inning with singles from Domonic Brown and Jesus Montero. But again, the Herd could only push across one tally on a groundout from Matt Dominguez.

In the seventh, Pompey bunted his way on base but was 90-feet away with Brown fouled out to end the game.

The rubber match of the three-game series is Wednesday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. The Bisons will then return to Coca-Cola Field for Thursday's home opener against Rochester.

BISONS NOTES

To make room for both Bisons pitchers, the Bisons placed outfielder Darrell Ceciliani on the disabled list, retroactive to April 11...Chris Leroux walked five batters to only one strikeout, but any rust could be easily have been expected. Leroux had not pitched since a March 26 Spring exhibition outing while in camp with the Phillies. Leroux was acquired by Toronto in a trade on April 3...After going hitless in the series in Pawtucket, Andy Burns was a combined 3-7 on Tuesday with a double and an RBI.
