Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Pawtucket, RI) - For the second straight night at McCoy Stadium, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders used a five-run inning to dispatch the Pawtucket Red Sox, this time by a score of 9-1 on Tuesday evening.
Scranton (3-2) took advantage of Pawtucket's defensive miscues early in the evening and cruised to its 14th victory in its 17 meetings with the PawSox (2-4) at McCoy Stadium since 2014.
In the first inning, the RailRiders rallied for three runs on two singles, three walks, a sacrifice fly, an error and a passed ball.
The PawSox responded in the bottom of the first against Scranton starter Chad Green as Josh Rutledge lined a leadoff double and Sam Travis drove him home with a single.
Roenis Elias (0-1), making his debut in the Red Sox organization, would toss scoreless second and third innings before again facing trouble in the fourth.
After allowing two singles and a Gary Sanchez RBI double in the fourth inning, Elias would be replaced by reliever Robby Scott. The first batter Scott faced, Rob Refsnyder would triple on a flyball that fell in front of left fielder Chris Marrero who slipped on the play. Chris Parmelee and Jonathan Diaz would also record RBI singles for the RailRiders in the inning.
Aaron Judge would tack on the ninth run for Scranton in the ninth inning with an RBI double, capping a 4-for-6 night.
Conor Mullee's (1-0) earned the win with 3.1 perfect innings of relief, including six strikeouts.
Pawtucket has dropped three games in a row.
The PawSox will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow afternoon, as they conclude their season-opening, seven-game homestand at 12:05 pm. Pawtucket lefthander Henry Owens (1-0, 0.00) will look to build on his scoreless season debut, while Scranton righthander Kyle Haynes (0-0, 3.60) is scheduled to make his second start of the season.
