Clean Sweep Set for April 30

Mayor Lovely A. Warren joined Rochester Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason and Gary Larder, chairman of Rochester Community Baseball, today to announce the details of this year's Clean Sweep event.

"Clean Sweep is a wonderful tradition that has become even better as a result of our partnership with the Rochester Red Wings," Mayor Warren said. "Spring cleaning and baseball are a wonderful way to shake off the winter blues. The volunteers who participate in Clean Sweep demonstrate the home-town pride that plays such an important role in our efforts to create more jobs, safer, more vibrant neighborhoods and provide a quality education for all of our children."

Clean Sweep Saturday will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday April 30 and begin at Frontier Field. Volunteers will gather to collect a free Clean Sweep t-shirt, eat a light breakfast and get their assignments before heading out to project sites in city neighborhoods. Mayor Warren will greet the volunteers and pose for a group photo.

Volunteers participating in Clean Sweep will receive a free ticket to that day's baseball game, which starts at 1:35 p.m. that afternoon. They'll also receive a voucher for food and drink at the game. Free parking will be available to those wearing Clean Sweep t-shirts.

Since it was first launched in 2006, more than 30,000 volunteers have participated in Clean Sweep, working alongside City crews to remove winter debris and litter from city neighborhoods. Volunteers also plant flowers, prune trees and perform other neighborhood beautification projects. City crews also remove graffiti, clean City properties, repair sidewalks and fill potholes.

Volunteers can register by calling 311 or visiting www.cityofrochester.gov/cleansweep. Walk-up volunteers on the morning or Clean Sweep are always welcome. Volunteers are asked to wear appropriate clothing, including hard-soled shoes and long pants. Gloves and tools will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own if possible.
