Louisville Bats News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Louisville Bats (0-2), playing their first game since Thursday, fell to the Columbus Clippers (2-1), 5-1 on Tuesday night at Huntington Park. Right-hander Jon Moscot (0-1, 7.50) made a Major League rehab start following a string of three postponed games in Toledo and one yesterday in Columbus. Moscot lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on six hits with six strikeouts in the losing effort. He threw 82 pitches, 55 for strikes.

A busy first inning led to the first scores of the game. A lead-off triple by Bats' shortstop Jose Peraza got the Bats on the board quickly following a fielder's choice RBI by left fielder Jesse Winker. The Clippers would quickly respond to the run scored in the top of the inning with a run of their own following a two-hit inning that saw MLB Rehab left fielder Michael Brantley double and score following a sacrifice fly.

Moscot was dealing after that for the next few innings. From the second inning through the fourth, Moscot struck out four and did not allow a hit. The Bats could not capitalize on Moscot's job well-done due to the superior effort of T.J. House for the Clippers. The Bats were only able to muster up two hits of their own during those same three innings.

Moscot did not have have the same success when he entered the 5th inning. The Clippers opened up the inning with a single from Robbie Grossman and a double from Erik Gonzalez. After a fielder's choice retired the first batter of the inning, Michael Choice grounded out to third to break the tie and put the Clippers up, 2-1. Leadoff batter, Michael Martinez, followed up Choice with a double of his own plating another. Joey Butler then filled the big shoes of Brantley in a big way by sending a two-run blast over the right-center field fence, making it 5-1.

Left-hander TJ House (1-0, 1.50) earned his first win of the season striking out four in six innings, allowing one run for Columbus. Two relievers would finish the game strong for Columbus as Louisville was only able to gather one-hit through the final 5 innings of play. The bullpen for Louisville allowed the same number of hits but the damage was done after five innings.

The Bats remain in Columbus tomorrow for a traditional doubleheader, with first pitch of game one scheduled for 11:35 AM. Left-hander Cody Reed (0-0) will be on the bump to start for the Bats. Left-hander Ryan Merritt (0-0) will get the ball for the Clippers.
