Today's Game
This evening, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in the last game of a two-game series. Following July 3rd's Independence Day Eve celebration at Coca-Cola Field, the Bisons will head to Moosic, PA for two games against the RailRiders July 4 and 5. The Herd will then host the Syracuse Chiefs for a weekend series before heading into the All-Star Break.
Last Game: BUF 2, SYR 6
RHP Chris Rowley took the loss on the mound in yesterday's defeat against the RailRiders. The righty gave up 7H, 5R/ER, 3BB, 1HR and striking out 3 in 5.0 innings of work. This was Rowley's shortest outing since 5/31 where he pitched 4.2 innings. The Herd was out-hit by the RailRiders 9-5. Buffalo is 3-27 this year in games their opponent has outhit them. DH Reese McGuire had the only multi-hit game including an RBI single.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (4-3)
The last time the Bisons and RailRiders met came at Coca-Cola Field, with the Herd sweeping the three-game series May 18-20, outscoring their division rival 18 to 6. INF Jason Leblebijian is 5-12 (.417) with two home runs in five games this season against Scranton. 1B Rowdy Tellez has collected nine hits in 22 at-bats in six games (.409).
Today's Starter: RHP Jon Harris
RHP Jon Harris earned his first win in his triple-A debut for the Herd against Pawtucket (6/28). Harris posted a quality start, 6.0IP, 4H, 1R/0ER, and 4K to lead the Bisons' to an 8-1 victory. Tonight, the righty will look to provide another solid outing for Buffalo as the Bisons' look for the split in the 2-game series versus the RailRiders.
Reese McGuire
C Reese McGuire went 2-4 yesterday recording the only multi-hit game for the Herd. The catcher had two singles and 1 out of the 2 RBI's for Buffalo. McGuire is batting .500 going 4-8 with a home run and 3RBI's in his last two games.
Dwight Smith Jr.
OF Dwight Smith Jr. collected an RBI in yesterday's loss on a broken bat single to center field. The outfielder is batting .295 at home with 23H, 12RBI's, 9BB making his OBP a .360... In his last nine games, Smith Jr. is 9-32 (.281) with four walks.
Transactions
There were a host of roster moves announced by the Bisons on Tuesday. INF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was recalled by Toronto in time for their game against Detroit, while RHP Al Alburquerque was given his release. LHP Craig Breslow was assigned to Buffalo from New Hampshire (AA), while Darnell Sweeney re-joined the team after being optioned by the Jays.
Conor Fisk
RHP Conor Fisk replaced Rowley in the 6th inning last night for his 14th appearance for the Herd. Fisk went 2.0IP, 1H, 0R/0ER, 1BB, and 1K, lowering his season ERA to 2.03. The righty has been lights out in home games this season, 2-0, 0.47ERA, 19.1IP, 12H, 2R/1ER, 8BB, 10K.
Blue Jays Update
Toronto (39-45) dropped the fourth game of the series, losing 3-2 in extra innings against the Detroit Tigers. LHP Ryan Borucki went 7.0IP, 6H, 2R/ER, 0BB, and 8SO. INF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 1-4 with a single. Tonight the Blue Jays start a two-game series against the Mets sending RHP Marco Estrada to the mound to face off against RHP Zack Wheeler (7:07 p.m.). Toronto then closes out a nine-game, ten day homestand against the Yankees July 6-8.
