Knights Drop Tuesday's Game to Tides 4-0

Charlotte Knights News Release

(NORFOLK, VA) -- RHP Jordan Stephens was solid over six innings pitched, but the Charlotte Knights dropped the finale of their two-game series against the Norfolk Tides by a score of 4-0 on Tuesday from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA.

Stephens (3-3, 3.58) started for the Knights and took a no-hitter into the sixth inning on Tuesday, but was the hard-luck losing pitcher. The 25-year-old hurler allowed just one run on three hits over six innings in his third start of the season against the Tides. He allowed an RBI single to Luis Sardiñas in the sixth inning, which was all the Tides needed to earn the victory. Norfolk eventually tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off Charlotte RHP Thyago Vieira.

Offensively for the Knights, catcher Seby Zavala went 3-for-3 at the plate with one of the team's two doubles. Second baseman Eddy Alvarez had the team's other double on the night, his team-high 20th of the season. The Knights tallied a total of six hits on the evening.

The Knights will now return home to BB&T Ballpark to open a two-game series against the Durham Bulls from Uptown Charlotte on Wednesday. The team will celebrate the Fourth of July with the annual WBT SkyShow, which features the largest fireworks show in the Southeast after the game. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. on July 4th. Pre-game radio coverage of Wednesday's 6:05 p.m. game is set for 5:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights radio broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action.
