Indians Finish Nine-Game Road Trip with Narrow 3-2 Loss

Indianapolis Indians News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY - Gabby Guerrero hit a solo home run to kick off a three-run second inning for the Bats, and the Indians couldn't overcome the deficit in a 3-2 loss at Louisville Slugger Field on Tuesday night. Pablo Reyes had three hits and a run scored in the losing effort, as Indy finished its nine-game trip 4-5.

The Bats (33-47) scored each of their runs in the second to split the brief two-game set. Guerrero's fifth home run with Louisville preceded a D.J. Peterson double and Steve Selsky single that teed up a run. Mason Williams capped the frame with an RBI single to right.

Indianapolis (44-38) bounced back with a run in the third. Reyes singled with one away and took second on a sacrifice bunt by J.T. Brubaker. Kevin Newman then punched a single to right to make it 3-1.

The score remained that way until the eighth. Newman doubled and Sean Rodriguez singled, but a line drive by Adam Frazier to second baseman Dilson Herrera led to Rodriguez being doubled off first. Jordan Luplow delivered a pinch-hit RBI single, but Indy couldn't fully complete the comeback.

Brubaker (L, 4-3) allowed three runs on six hits across 5.2 innings pitched. He walked one and struck out three. Rehabbing right-hander Homer Bailey (W, 1-2) hurled 6.2 inning of one-run ball. He scattered seven hits and fanned eight.

Kevin Quackenbush (S, 12) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with a pair of strikeouts for the save.

After sweeping Toledo to start their longest road trip of 2018, the Indians dropped five of the last six.

The Indians return to Victory Field to start a five-game homestand against Louisville and Columbus. The Tribe will send southpaw Brandon Waddell (2-4, 7.84) to the bump against Bats lefty Cody Reed (2-6, 4.57) on the Fourth of July. First pitch is set for 6:15 p.m. EDT.
