Columbus Clippers News Release

The Columbus Clippers knocked off the Toledo Mud Hens in the first of a four-game home and home series by a final score of 11-1 tonight at Fifth Third Field behind a stellar start from Adam Wilk.

The Clippers came to play, putting up runs in the first, second and third innings to start things off.

Greg Allen was active early for Columbus, walking and stealing second to kick off the game. He later scored on a wild pitch, giving the Clippers a 1-0 lead.

After Dawel Lugo tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the second, Allen was at it again for the Clippers, driving in two with a double, making it 3-1 after the bottom of the second.

Nellie Rodriguez broke things open in the bottom of the third, hammering a three-run homerun over the wall in right field to provide his team a 6-1 lead.

The Clippers tacked on two more in the fifth with an Eric Haase RBI double and a Yandy Diaz single to make it 8-1.

Wilk quietly, but masterfully, kept the Mud Hens' bats at bay throughout the ballgame before he was finally pulled after the seventh inning. He allowed just the one run on one hit, while walking two and striking out seven.

Chris Tremie's squad added more insurance in the top of the ninth after Diaz put himself in scoring position with a double. Francisco Mejia singled him in to make it 9-1, and Adam Rosales followed with his team-leading 12th homerun, a two-run shot to finish the scoring at 11-1.

Luke Eubank finished things off for the Clippers in the ninth.

The teams will square off tomorrow for game two at Fifth Third Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
