Today's Game

The evening, Bisons' take on the Gwinnett Stripers in the third game of a four-game set at Coolray Field. Buffalo will have a scheduled off-day on Monday before returning home for their final homestand of the 2018 season to face division rivals Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (August 21-23) and Pawtucket Red Sox (August 24-27). Buffalo will face the rest of their division in their final series of the season. The team squares off against the Rochester Red Wings August 28-30 (doubleheader on the 28th) and will then continue up the 90 to play the Syracuse Chiefs August 31- September 3.

The Bisons recorded their fifth shutout win of the season on Friday night, blanking Gwinnett 8-0. RHP Murphy Smith earned his third win of the year in five innings of work, while the offense helped the team jump out in front early. OF Dwight Smith Jr. hit a first inning home run, and was 3-4 overall on the night with 3RBI. INF Gunnar Heidt added his first Triple-A HR in the win as well.

Gwinnett (2-3)

The Bisons and Stripers are meeting for their final series of the season. Gwinnett took two of three that last time these two played, a series spanning August 7-9 at Coca-Cola Field. The Bisons go into this four-game series looking to win their first season series against the Stripers in over five years.

Today's Starter: LHP Shawn Morimando

LHP Shawn Morimando will make his Bisons' debut after signing as a free agent on a minor league contract on July 9. The southpaw began the season with the Columbus Clippers, going 1-3 in five starts. The 25-year-old has made 42 career Triple-A starts, all for Columbus, going 16-14, over three seasons (2016-18).

Dwight Smith Jr.

OF Dwight Smith Jr. led the Herd's offense on Friday, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Smith Jr. reached base four times, including a walk to go along with his first inning home run and fifth inning double. He added three RBIs to bring his season total to 41. The outfielder is 9-21 (.429) on the road trip.

Rowdy Tellez

1B Rowdy Tellez recorded his 30th multi-hit performance, going 2-5 in Friday's victory. Tellez continues to lead the team in hits with 100. The first baseman is hitting .351 in August (20-57) with 3HR and 7RBI in 16 games. He is hitting .328 (41-125) since July 1.

Transactions

On Friday, OF Billy McKinney was recalled by the Toronto Blue Jays. LHP Thomas Pannone was added to the Bisons' roster from Toronto, while RHP Claudio Custodio was reassigned to Dunedin (Adv-A).

Bisons' Bits

The Herd has made 216 roster moves in 2018. LHP Shawn Morimando will become the 70th different player to appear in a Bisons uniform in his start tonight. The most players in a single season to appear in a game since 2013 is 73. The most roster moves in one season of the affiliation with the Toronto Blue Jays is 239. Both marks reached in 2014.

Blue Jays Update

Toronto (55-67) dropped the first game of a three-game series against the New York Yankees in the Bronx 7-5, in a game shortened by rain to seven innings. RHP Marcus Stroman made the start, lasting four innings in a no decision. RHP Sean Reid-Foley is for the mound in the middle game of the series (1:25 p.m.).
