Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs and Indianapolis Indians split a doubleheader Saturday Night at Coca-Cola Park.
Game 1: Resuming the suspended game from Friday night, the IronPigs defeated the Indians 4-1 to take a 2-0 lead in this four-game series.
The IronPigs entered Saturday trailing 1-0 in the top of the second and Cole Irvin (12-4) on the hill taking over for Jeff Singer, who got credited with the start.
The IronPigs evened the game against Tyler Eppler (12-6), who took over for JT Brubaker in the bottom of the second. Dylan Cozens led off the inning with a double and was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Mitch Walding. Two innings later, Aaron Altherr hit his first Triple-A home run of 2018 to give the Pigs a 2-1 lead.
Cozens, who entered the game with one triple in 2018, hit his second three-bagger of the game to set up a scoring opportunity in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs in the inning, Mitch Walding doubled off the left field to wall to make it 3-1. Cozens' two-triple game ties the Pigs franchise record most recently matched by Darnell Sweeney.
In the bottom of the eighth, Danny Ortiz homered into right-center field to make it 4-1. In six-games against his former team, Ortiz has three doubles, three home runs and batting .500 with seven RBI.
Irvin finished the game going 7 1/3 innings in relief. It was Irvin's first relief appearance since May 2017 with Clearwater. Irvin has now gone 14 1/3 innings without allowing a run.
Game 2: A four-run top of the eighth inning lifted the Indians to a 5-1 win the nightcap at Coca-Cola Park.
Indy got on the scoreboard in the top of the second against Enyel De Los Santos. After a Kevin Kramer double, Eric Wood singled the opposite way with two outs to make it 1-0. That was the last hit the Indians would record before extra innings.
Damien Magnigico started the game and went two innings for the Indians while striking out two. He was followed by the 2017 IL Pitcher of the Year, Steven Brault who added an 1 1/3 scoreless innings, struck out two and allowed two hits before turning the ball over to Alex McRae.
De Los Santos was brilliant in six-innings of work. He held the Indians to just two hits and struck out two. It marked the 11th time in 2018 that De Los Santos allowed one run or less in a start.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Dylan Cozens doubled to lead off the inning against McRae. With one down and Cozens still on second, Collin Cowgill singled up the middle to plate Cozens and tie the game.
In the eighth, the Indians plated four runs to go up 5-1 in extras against Pedro Beato (6-4).
The IronPigs and Indians wrap up their four-game set Sunday at 1:35 p.m. Before the game, 1,500 kids, 17 and under will receive a Philly Special youth replica jersey presented by Coca-Cola. Postgame Kids Run the Bases presented by Lehigh Valley Children's Hospital will follow the contest.
