 Columbus Clippers

Ninth Inning Rally Gives Syracuse Win

August 18, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release

The Columbus Clippers fell in game three of a four-game set with the Syracuse Chiefs, 8-3, tonight at Huntington Park.

Tied 3-3 in the ninth, Joe Marmolejos ripped a bases-loaded double to give Syracuse the lead, and eventually its first win of the series.

The Clippers started fast with singles from Brandon Barnes and Connor Marabell to lead off the ballgame. Then, with two outs, Bobby Bradley singled through the right side, scoring both, to take a 2-0 lead.

The Chiefs bounced back with a solo homerun from Pedro Severino in the second and RBI singles from Matt Reynolds and Marmolejos in the third to make it 3-2.

Columbus waited until the sixth to get the bats going again, but Adam Rosales woke them up in a big way, hammering his seventeenth homerun over the left field wall to tie the game at 3-3.

Syracuse loaded the bases with nobody out in the ninth for Marmolejos, who made Clippers' reliever Jon Edwards pay with a bases-clearing double for the 6-3 advantage. Adrian Sanchez followed with a booming triple to right, tacking on another run, which Chris Dominguez backed up with an RBI single to push things to 8-3.

That's where things would finish as the Clippers were blanked in the ninth.

The teams will go at it in the series finale tomorrow at 4:05 p.m.
